𝓕𝓮𝓪𝓽𝓾𝓻𝓮 𝓕𝓻𝓲𝓭𝓪𝔂! It has been raining recently, how have you been? How was your week? The new semester is about to start soon; I’ve seen new faces in the campus. Did you make new friends? Today is Friday, which means we are going to know another international fella! Her name is Lin Wang a.k.a “Suika” (yup, that’s her nickname). Suika, from Xi’an China, is a 2nd year master’s student at the Faculty of Engineering specializing in Food and Energy Science. Let’s get to know Watermelon - i mean Suika - our #FeatureFriday focus of this week!

|| Fun Facts:
1. If I have superpowers, I want to become a shepherd dog and go to the grassland to herd sheep.
2. During my free time, I watch TV series from various countries and go to karaoke with friends.
3. My favourite place is the small pond. Every time I feel sad or stressed, I will sit there, listen to the sound of water, close my eyes, and feel that my whole body has been healed.
4. Something I dislike: The rule of core time — the student age is very short, research is very important, and social communication is also very important. As an international student, I think it is very important to contact Japanese society. The rule of core time makes people lose the freedom of time. I don’t like it.
5. If I’ll become a billionaire, I want to donate to those who are persecuted by war, poverty and hunger.
6. My favourite place in China is Beijing, because there is the Palace Museum. I like history very much. Looking at the Forbidden City, I imagine the life of ancient people, as if I am travelling in time.

𝓕𝓮𝓪𝓽𝓾𝓻𝓮 𝓕𝓻𝓲𝓭𝓪𝔂! How was your week? The weather’s still scorching hot, are you doing fine? Friday came to play again! This time we will learn about another international student pursuing her master’s study in Applied Physics (M2) at the Faculty of Engineering. Nur Rahmawati Ayukaryana a.k.a. “Ayu” was born and raised in Surakarta, Indonesia. Without further ado, let’s get to know this young scientist of Nokodai - Ayu - our #FeatureFriday focus of this week.

|| Fun Facts:
1. Why did I choose TUAT? I fell in love with superconductivity :)
2. There is a building next to my lab where a sentence “Be A Great Small” is written in front of it. I walk past the building almost daily and it brings sunshine to my day.
3. I dislike: War and climate change, it is harmful for any living beings on the planet. Oh and patriarchy.
4. I am a Potterhead and cat person!!!
5. I did a major faux pas involving chopsticks, learn Japanese culture folks ;)
6. I LOVE beaches or places with water generally and “Wayang” performance!
7. I sometimes sing loudly in the lab when no one is around ^-^
8. My superpower dream would be the ability to live healthily without foods and sleep :D
9. Fave Japanese food? I don’t know its name, it was rice with broth made of tea with a bit of wasabi on top, surprisingly very delicious!
10. I want to make every kid in my neighborhood to study everything that they want, then use the remaining money to travel and learn philosophy, psychology, economics, politics, journalism, medicine, and more!!! Oh also, buy high-end photography gears hahahah.

My research revolves around superconductor material development and data-driven synthesis using machine learning algorithms. Do you know that a superconductor has zero resistivity and we can make super cool tech such as quantum computer, fusion reactor, electric aircraft, and MagLev train out of it? ^o^

She is studying Molecular Biology at the Faculty of Engineering, Koganei Campus. Insaf just finished her thesis defense last June, so soon she will obtain her degree and receive that “Dr” title. Without further ado, let’s get to know our #FeatureFriday focus of this week.

1. Why did I choose TUAT? It was a very prominent university in the field of microalgae.
2. My favorite spot on campus is the koi pond, it’s very peaceful and exclusive.
3. I was chased by wolves once!
4. I love Italian food - very flavorful and close to the food in my home country!
5. I really hate red beans.
6. If I’ll become a billionaire, I will buy my own island.
7. If you visit Tunisia, I recommend Sidi Bou Said… you will know why when you see it.

Got reunited with a STEP alumna! ✨
Raito-san, from China, was my classmate when I was an exchange student under a program called STEP-TUAT (Short-Term Exchange Program at Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology).
I was so happy to see her again after 6 years! How quickly time has passed—has it really been that long? It’s so nostalgic! We made a lot of good memories together back when I was still a rookie in this beautiful land.

But the good point is that summer vacation has just started! Yatta ze! This week we are joined by a tropical Japanese boy named Ryuma Kinjo from Okinawa. He is currently a first-year master’s student specializing in Computer Science at the Koganei Campus. Let us all welcome Ryuma, this week’s #FeatureFriday focus.

1. Why did I choose TUAT? I wanted to live in Tokyo!
2. I started a business with a friend aiming to become a billionaire, but I quit because I couldn’t fulfill my role.
3. When I was a child, I used to make prank calls imitating anime voices.
4. I’ve accidentally broken my glasses with my butt.
5. My favorite country food is Filipino food. There are many kinds of meats and delicious. The seasonings and flavors suit my palate.
6. During my free time, I do Netflix, Cooking, Workout, Lunch/Dinner with my buddies!
7. Dislike: Hang out throughout the night. It’s just tiresome.
8. Favorite Japanese phrase: 「好きこそ物の上手なれ」

My research focuses on (1) Intra-kernel Isolation based on System Call Phases, and (2) Protect computers from being hijacked or buggy so that their impact is not widespread.

TUAT students from both campuses celebrated Tanaba

TUAT students from both campuses celebrated Tanabata together 🎋 They wrote wishes on colored paper strips and hung them on bamboo branches.

Tanabata a.k.a. “The Star Festival” is a celebration of the reunion of the cosmic lovers Orihime and Hikoboshi - separated by the Milky Way - who only get together on the seventh day of the seventh month of the year. Did you know that?
Writing Tanabata wishes, or tanzaku, on vibrant paper strips and hanging them from bamboo branch-based Tanabata trees is a custom observed during this time of year.

May all your wishes come true! 🌟✨
